We provide the Aran sweaters which were typically close fit, elevated necked, and in the case of a woman’s sweater, waist length. The corresponding sweaters for men were slightly longer in length.

The twisting, turning patterning of the knit stitches are thought to reflect the heavily forested surrounding mountainous areas, perhaps follow the twisted pattern of branches. The flecks of colored embroidery duplicate the field flowers in bloom.

The Aran sweater which we provide is named as the fisherman’s sweater. Small patterns on the layer lines assisted several purposes and it is used to frame the pattern, create a fabricated seam line, and to guide the knitter when cutting an opening for the sleeve.
